This radio station is owned and operated by Entercom and has its offices and studios in the combined Entercom facility in the Hudson Square neighborhood of lower Manhattan. The broadcast was the world’s first radio station to adopt the 24/7 sports radio format.

 WFAN has its transmitter on High Island in the Bronx and it has a 50 000 w clear channel signal, which can be heard throughout much of the eastern United States and Canada at night. It can also be heard on WFAN-FM and on online platforms.

 The current programming of WFAN since November 2020 includes the following:

• "The Warm Up Show" with morning producers Al Dukes and Jerry Recco, Boomer and Gio and co-hosted by former National Football League quarterback Boomer Esiason, as well as longtime WFAN producer Gregg Giannotti.
• The midday show hosted by Maggie Gray and Marc Malusis.
• The afternoon drive hosted by Craig Carton and Evan Roberts.
• During most weekdays, "JJ After Dark: Odds On Sports" hosted by John Jastremski directly after Carton and Roberts.

 During the NFL season, on Monday nights they air an NFL-based program. These programs were hosted in 2017 by Kim Jones and Carl Banks from Dan Rooney's Sports Bar at Empire City Casino in Yonkers, New York. 

 And during most other evenings, the shows host is Steve Somers who often leads into and/or follows live game broadcasts. Other regular hosts overnight and during the weekend are Bob Salter, Chris McMonigle, Danielle McCartan, Ed Randall, Jody McDonald, Richard Neer and Rick Wolff.

 WFAN is known for being a radio station that has established a tight bond with its listeners, which can be seen in the fact that one of them eventually landed a regular on-air spot: Joe Benigno. His calls were mostly quite interesting and insightful.
